Mortgage Advice for Keighley Homebuyers
Hi, I’m Megan 😊 I’m Keighley born and bred, and I lived in Skipton for many years, so I know the Aire Valley well. I help people from Keighley and the villages around it buy, move and remortgage.
Whether you’re looking at your first stone terrace off Skipton Road, moving up to a family home in Riddlesden or Long Lee, or reserving a new build, I’ll take the time to understand your circumstances and explain everything in plain English, with no jargon. You can speak to me on the phone, on a video call or on WhatsApp.

A bit about me
I started my career in the mortgage industry in 2014, after finishing my studies at Leeds Trinity University. I gained experience at Lloyds Banking Group and Skipton Building Society, then became a Mortgage and Protection Adviser in 2016 and went on to set up FB Mortgages. I hold CERT CII (MP).
I work with a panel of over 90 lenders and insurers. I’m not a lender myself, so my job is to find the mortgage that suits you, not to sell you one bank’s products. In 2024, FB Mortgages won Professional Service Business of the Year at the Skipton Business Awards, and I’ve been featured on BBC News and BBC Radio Leeds.
Buying in Keighley: what I see locally
Keighley has a real mix of homes, and that changes the conversation about your mortgage:
- Lots of terraced homes. Bradford Council’s draft Local Plan says 40.8% of Keighley’s homes are terraced, compared with 30.7% across West Yorkshire and 24.5% nationally. Many of these are older stone houses: the same document says around a quarter of the town’s homes were built before 1900. That makes Keighley a popular first step onto the ladder. With older properties it’s worth thinking about the survey and the lender’s view of the construction early, and I’ll talk you through that.
- Family homes and semis in areas like Riddlesden, Utley and Long Lee for people moving up the ladder.
- New builds. Recent developments include Avant Homes’ Odette’s Point on Shann Lane (three- and four-bedroom homes) and plans for around 103 homes off Moss Carr Road in Long Lee. Bradford’s draft Local Plan identifies 29 housing sites in Keighley. New-build purchases come with their own timescales, such as reservation deadlines and offer expiry dates, so it helps to have your mortgage lined up early.
- Commuters. Keighley station is on the Airedale Line. Northern’s journey planner puts trains to Leeds at around 28 minutes on average and to Bradford Forster Square at around 27 minutes. Skipton is around 15 minutes up the line. Lots of my Keighley clients work in Leeds or Bradford, or work from home.
How I help Keighley buyers and homeowners
- First-time buyers: I’ll work out roughly what you could borrow, get your Decision in Principle (usually within 24 hours of our appointment) and explain each step, from your offer on a terrace to getting the keys. If you’re thinking about a small deposit, I can check whether you’d fit any lender’s criteria.
- Home movers: upsizing, downsizing or moving from the town centre out to the villages? I’ll look at whether to move your existing mortgage with you or switch, and help you line up your sale and purchase.
- Remortgaging: I can’t believe how quickly fixed deals come round! I’ll compare staying with your current lender against switching, so you can decide what’s right for you. (Book a remortgage review)
- Buy to let: whether it’s your first rental in Keighley or you’re adding to a portfolio, I’ll look at the lenders’ rental and affordability criteria with you. (Ask about buy to let)
- Bad credit: missed payments, defaults or CCJs don’t necessarily rule you out. I’ll review your credit file free of charge, without judgement, and tell you honestly where you stand and what might help.
- Self-employed: if you’re a sole trader, a company director or a contractor, I’ll explain what lenders will want to see and help you get your paperwork together. I also help foster carers, content creators and sports professionals.
- Protection: life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection, so your home and family are looked after. As with all insurance policies, conditions and exclusions will apply.
Why use a mortgage broker in Keighley?
- I know the area. I grew up in Keighley and lived in Skipton for years, so I know the local market, from Victorian terraces to new-build estates.
- One person from start to finish. You’ll deal with me, not a call centre. I’ll keep you posted and chase lenders, solicitors and estate agents so you don’t have to.
- Talk to me however suits you: phone, video call, WhatsApp, email or the client portal.
- Free initial appointment with no obligation.
Our initial mortgage consultations and quotes are free with no obligation. There may be a fee for arranging a mortgage and the precise amount will depend on your circumstances. This will typically be £395 for a purchase for Residential Mortgage and BTL Mortgage and £195 re-mortgage.
How it works
- Free chat. Book online, WhatsApp me or call. We’ll talk about your plans and what you need.
- Decision in Principle. I’ll check roughly how much lenders may be willing to lend, usually within 24 hours of our appointment.
- Recommendation. I’ll search my panel of lenders and explain my recommendation and why it suits you.
- Application. I’ll submit your application and keep in touch with the lender, the estate agent and your solicitor.
- Offer to completion. I’ll keep you updated until you get your keys, then contact you before your deal ends so you’re not left on a standard variable rate.
Keighley mortgage FAQs
Do we need to meet in person?
No, all my appointments are by phone, video call or WhatsApp, at a time that suits you.
Can I get a mortgage on an older stone terrace?
Usually, yes. Older properties are a big part of Keighley’s housing, and lenders look at each property individually. If the valuation or survey shows anything, such as damp or a non-standard build, I’ll talk you through your options.
I’m buying a new build in Keighley. When should I speak to you?
As early as possible, ideally before you reserve. New-build developers often set tight deadlines, and some new-build mortgage offers have expiry dates you’ll need to keep an eye on.
Do you cover the villages around Keighley?
Yes. I help clients in Riddlesden, Long Lee, Utley, Haworth, Oakworth, Cross Hills, Silsden, Steeton and the wider BD20–BD22 area, and across the UK.
Can you help if I have bad credit or I’m self-employed?
Yes. I’ll be honest about what’s possible, and I’ll never promise an outcome. Every lender has its own criteria, but I’ll review your situation and explain the options.
How long does it take?
It depends on your circumstances and the lender. I can often get a Decision in Principle within 24 hours of our appointment. After that, I’ll keep you updated at each stage.
Ready to chat?
Whether you’re just starting to look around Keighley or you’ve already found the one, I’m happy to answer your questions.
